TABLE OF CONTENTS1 Introduction 32 Technical and scientific aspects 33 Dismantling 81 INTRODUCTIONThis project involves dismantling a gearbox, analyzing the material from which it was made manufactured and how these materials were made. Designed by Bonfiglioli, this project will involve dismantling their worm gearbox. The modern world needs machines with great power, some applications only need power; Worm drives have good power output due to their mechanical advantage which is equal to the number of teeth on the output drive. Combined with a high-power motor, the torque that can be produced by the worm drive is far greater than any other type of gear. As a result, the forces exerted in the worm drive will be quite high. The Bonfiglioli worm drive has been manufactured with as few components as possible, with the drive components having been reinforced and specified to a high standard. It is understood that use of the device is likely on a low speed transmission line or conveyor system in a factory. Furthermore, from the lens understood, other factors related to its manufacturing must be taken into account; this will be examined through this report. This report will examine the manufacturing of the variator in great detail, the sections covered in this report will focus on the technical background and scientific aspects of the variator: including a description of disassembly, how the parts are connected. and how they differ. The report will continue by showing how the parts fit together in a series of images and critical features and components will be highlighted. Additional information will be covered, including basic static analysis of loading and verification of material selection.2 TECHNICAL AND SCIENTIFIC ASPE...... middle of paper ...... a hand press must then be used to remove the worm shaft which is held in place with a light pressure fitting. A hydraulic press does not offer the fidelity that a manual press can. It is best to use a hand press for lightweight press fittings. Remove the oil seal (8) from the worm shaft (3) and the circlip (not numbered) from the worm shaft. If aluminum chips/bullets are visible, the entire worm shaft will need to be replaced. The bearing (5) can be removed from the worm wheel using the hand press and a corresponding jig to hold the assembly. The assembly must now be completely dismantled with a separate tool. Components: Components can be removed from the respective shafts if necessary. Bonfiglioli has in fact manufactured its gearboxes to take advantage of numerous elements making disassembly quick. They also minimized failure points and made remaining points easy to access..
