Essay / Relationship Analysis in Cara Chow's Bitter Melon
The price of parents is very important to children. This gives children confidence. The reactions, words and opinions of the mother and father have had a huge impact on their children, even if it is not good for the children. Parents can create the idea of the first child which would be the basic idea of the children. If parents are always against them, they will not have confidence in them. Sometimes children struggle between their opinion and that of their parents. When children have their own opinion against their parents, they would not be happy and they would lose their original idea. Most parents hope that their children will follow their ideas or opinions. However, sometimes children cannot do this, which would create conflict between parents and their children. A book, Bitter Melon, written by Cara Chow, shows the conflict between mother and daughter. They didn't understand each other. The mother shared her own opinion with her daughter. Then his daughter's idea completely strengthened his idea. Ching Tai Tai wanted Frances to become a doctor for her because she had a physical problem. She had no family members other than Frances because she was divorced. She always cursed her husband because he had betrayed her by being unfaithful. So, teaching her daughter Frances about the real world wasn't easy. It wasn't fake, but it was too true for her daughter's dream. Even Frances tried too hard, she didn't have confidence in her ability to succeed. When Frances told her the story of “The Little Mermaid,” she reminded her daughter that real life would not be like this story. "'That's nice,' said Mom. 'Remember, it's just a fairy tale. In real life, by venturing out to catch this prince, the mermaid would have lost her prince, his voice and his life'” (135). She...... middle of paper...... I really want to do it. The ideas for his future came from his mother. Therefore, they were always upset when each other did something that was not in their plan. To be independent of each other, I think they shouldn't interfere too much. For example, Frances' mother should not decide what Frances will be. Deciding what it will be is Frances' job. On the other hand, Frances shouldn't worry about her mother's word every time. Then she should say what she really wants to do. This should not affect his mother's speech, it will be his own speech. I think Ching Tai Tai couldn't give "unconditional love" to her daughter, so I think Frances must be an adult and she can give her "unconditional love". This will make his mother's darkness clearer. These actions would help them because they would understand more and more. Understanding each other could help improve their relationship.
