  • Essay / Judicial Corruption in the United States - 1835

The problem of judicial corruption in the United States is immense. The Sixth Amendment of the United States Bill of Rights refers to the right to a speedy, fair, and public trial. Unfortunately, our legal system does not always guarantee these rights. The American justice system is very corrupt and most citizens of our country do not know how corrupt it really is. When we think of the justice system, the words that come to mind are justice, morality and fairness. Unfortunately, these words are not an accurate description of this system. Correct depictions of the current justice system are corruption, rigged courts, extortion and bogus trials. Our legal system does not bring truth or justice into our courtrooms. Defeating this corruption is not easy for the average citizen or anyone not involved in the “game”. This problem affects everyone, but only benefits four types of people: judges, lawyers, clients who pay lawyers thousands of extra dollars to win their cases, and the police. Today's judges are not playing fair and accepting bribes from equally corrupt lawyers who are desperate to win a case and improve their winnings over their losses. Lawyers demand more money from clients so they can secretly hand over money to lawyers and ask for "favors" in the courtroom. With all this injustice, fear sets in among the client, who is then willing to spend more on a lawyer to ensure success in a case; “Fear and injustice equal more money for lawyers and judges” (Sachs). Many people know or have witnessed this corruption and many attempts have been made to get rid of it. It is not an easy task to try to deliver justice where it belongs.
