Gatsby is so determined to prove that Daisy loved him that it destroys his life. The book “The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald is set in the Roaring Twenties. The first time Gatsby and Daisy met, he was a soldier and she a debutante: there were sparks between them. Their paths diverged because they came from different worlds. When they meet again, their lives are radically different. Gatsby now has money and Daisy now has a family. In Gatsby's mind, it didn't matter who or what he destroyed, as long as the end result was him and Daisy being together. Gatsby and Daisy first met in Louisville. He was immediately seduced by her beauty, her youthful innocence, not to mention her wealth. He knew that if Daisy found out about his poverty, he wouldn't have a chance with her. Gatsby was determined to hide his past and his situation from her. Before going to war, they promised each other that they wanted each other. Daisy, however, doesn't wait.
