  • Essay / Why I want to attend Westmont College - 692

Westmont CollegeWestmont College is a small liberal arts college located in beautiful Santa Barbara, California. The college offers only bachelor's degrees. Westmont is a standard four-year college. They are non-denominational and encourage their students to live Christian lives. They offer studies based on Christianity. An interesting fact is that 78% of financial needs are met! Serious crimes (per 1,000 students per year) are 17.06, drug or weapons incidents are 2.22, and alcohol encounters are 14.83. Santa Barbara is considered a pretty safe place, so seeing these statistics is pretty surprising! Admissions to Westmont are very competitive! You must have four years of English, two years of foreign language, three years of mathematics, three years of science, two years of laboratory science and two years of social studies. Once you start applying, you need to write an essay and get recommendations. You must take the SAT or ACT. Westmont doesn't specify what your GPA should be, but the lowest grades for incoming freshmen are 2.50 to 2.99 and they make up only seven percent of the class. As you can see, your GPA is important. The college also considers your character qualities and your standardized test scores to be very important! Your application essay, your extracurricular activities, your interview (if you choose to have one), your level of interest in the college, your recommendations, your religious affiliations, the level of your high school record, and your talent are considered important. Interestingly, Westmont wonders if you have any alumni connections, which I do! They also take into account your rank in your class, whether you are a first-generation college student, your geographic residence, your racial status, your volunteer work, and whether you have job prospects......at middle of paper ......ng to Westmont is a good idea considering how much they would love the school. The graduation rate for men is 74% and that for women is 79%. This shows that Westmont students are dedicated and determined. I like knowing this because it demonstrates a good environment for learning and growing! Westmont College was fun to check out! I knew it was difficult to get in and now I know the goals I need to set for myself to have a chance of getting into the school. Although most of my family lives in Santa Barbara or other Southern California cities, I would be very far away from my immediate family, which makes me sad because I am so close to my family. I love Santa Barbara and Westmont looks like a wonderful university on a beautiful campus, I would be so honored to be able to attend such a prestigious school to continue my education.: 1,816
