Having situational experience gives in-depth knowledge to identify different roles. The lead nurse with a BSN degree made a better decision than the ADN nurse. An elderly patient admitted with pneumonia who was receiving continuous intravenous fluids during his night shift. She started wheezing and becoming even more out of breath. Respiratory therapy was called in to provide breathing treatment so the patient could feel better; however, this didn't help at all. Although the DNA nurse examined the patient's health and protection status, medical history to collect data to analyze the problem and call the doctor; however, it was unable to target better intervention and outcomes. Meanwhile, the senior nurse provided better intervention to make the patient more comfortable, such as keeping the head elevated, closely monitoring I&S, assessing every two hours, and monitoring the patient more closely, then the doctor was informed and resolved the issues such that the patient might have fluid overload. The BSN nurse made a better decision than the ADN nurse because it could be because she has been in the nursing field for so many years; however, she had extensive knowledge to provide safe and healthy patient care. In fact, nurses with a BSN degree on the job have better leadership skills and critical thinking than associate nurses.
