  • Essay / Steroids Should Be Banned in Sports - 2666

Currently, it is estimated that at least 6.67 percent of high school students in the United States have tried steroids, or 500,000 men ages 17 to 18 ( anabolic steroids). The pressure of steroids on adolescents is constantly drilled into their heads as they associate increased strength with perfection. Teenagers are under immense pressure to be perfect. Children are pushed to succeed in school, sports, and any other activity in which they participate. Anything less than the best is unacceptable and a failure that strikes and leads to disrespect. The sole purpose of failure is to tear people away from their self-confidence and make them insecure, questioning their abilities and themselves. It is not helpful for children to have role models who take the easiest route to achieving their goals. It also sends a message to those who look up to them that it is perfectly acceptable to make certain sacrifices to achieve one's goals and standards. Hard work and determination are a thing of the past when you can do the same amount of work and get results faster by taking just a few risks. Steroids should not only be banned from sport, but athletes who have used them should receive a more distinct and severe punishment. No matter how it is said or defended, steroids really do cheat. Steroids become a substitute for hard work and determination. Firstly, give a brief history and background of steroids to discuss their actual composition and how they can affect the human body, personal behavior, side effects, different types of steroids and last their relationship with adolescents. Steroids were created to replicate the testosterone that is produced by the medium of paper sometimes, but you have to learn to deal with the fact that we are all human and we all have flaws. True perfection doesn't come from a syringe or a bottle of pills, but from consistently doing the best job possible because, ultimately, that's what perfection really is. This cannot be accomplished by taking any type of steroid. Although anything can be accomplished if the mind allows it, with time and hard work. Doubts or what we call “weakness” should motivate us to produce more and more, generating even more will to work even harder. Opposed to letting people's thoughts, words, or actions lead us to a point where desperation sets in to find a possible way to become "perfect." When we allow ourselves to break down, that's when alternative pathways are used to achieve our goals, like steroids..
