I had the opportunity to learn more about the South Milwaukee community related to disease promotion, maintenance, and management. Our group had to do windshield surveys, interviews, research common health issues, all while using our knowledge of the nursing process to complete a community assessment. We discovered after the interview and data analysis that South Milwaukee populations suffer from high blood pressure and mental health disorders. Our nursing intervention consisted of implementing the promotion of physical health. South Milwaukee has recreation centers and a senior center next to City Hall that offers a variety of classes and activities, especially for the middle-aged population primarily seen in this city. Involve the community more in physical exercise and physical classes and activities on a schedule based on their availability. Additionally, nurses should listen to community stories about their illness.
