Essay / Technologies are destroying intimate relationships
As the dynamics of technology grow, human beings are losing intimate relationships with friends or family. Sherry Turkle, who wrote the article “Alone Together,” believes that technological devices and new ways of connecting with others make it difficult for humans to maintain intimate relationships with others. Today, technological devices help individuals connect with others more easily. However, several hundred years ago, when individuals had difficulty connecting with others, they maintained intimate relationships. This is why Adam Gopnik, who wrote the article “Bumping Into Mr. Ravioli”, points out that technologies are changing the way humans live and the dominant ideas. Nowadays, people believe that activity equals success. People want to succeed; so they don't have time to have intimate relationships. By combining ideas from two articles, it is possible to highlight that technologies help individuals connect more easily with others and have new ideas and a new lifestyle. These allow individuals to establish intimate relationships with others as they did several hundred years ago. Technologies help individuals connect more easily with others, but they destroy individuals' intimacy. Several hundred years ago, humans did not have cell phones, computers, or cars, but they maintained intimate relationships with friends and family. In every culture, there was a story about a person doing their best to save their close friends, or even sacrificing their own life. Over time, people have built many new devices. They help people connect more easily with others. Gopnik writes: “It was trains and telegrams. The railroads ended isolation and filled the metropolis with people whose work was defined by a complex network of...... middle of paper...... activity” (156). Many Rovioli people in our society. They are busy all day long and have no place or space for company to their family or old friends. They want to be successful or appear to be successful and they get wrapped up in that image. Technologies change the dominant ideas of humans and mean that the individual no longer has space or time to maintain intimate relationships. Technology makes it easier to connect with others, but more and more connections mean there is no room for people to have intimate relationships with others. Technology changes the dominant idea of people and makes people no longer have time to enjoy or maintain these intimate relationships. However, it may also indicate that if people try to live a slow life and keep their inner spirit, they will finally find happiness from their intimate relationships with friends and family..
