The book and movie “The Landlady” by Roald Dahl is about a young man named Billy Weaver who is looking for a bed and breakfast to spend the night. He comes across a low-cost hotel with a private owner who knows how to make her guests have a strange night. The book and film have two key differences and one important similarity. The setting of the book and the film is different, which changes the mood. The resolution is different which gives the reader/viewer an opposing point of view. Billy's choice at the beginning of the story and the film gives the same plot. If any of these ideas had been the same between the film and the book, or had been changed, the reader/viewer would have contrasting thoughts. In the book “The Landlady”, the story begins in the cold of the night. »… it was around nine o'clock in the evening and the moon was coming out of a clear sky above the houses opposite the station entrance. But the air was deathly cold and the wind was like a flat blade of ice on his cheeks. When the book begins with a cold wind in the night, it is to give a strange impression. This aspect differs from the film. In the movie “The Landlady,” the setting begins very differently than in the book. It begins around the middle of a temperate day. The film begins when Billy first boards the train, then gets off at his stop. Even though there are gray clouds, there is plenty of light. By this you can tell that it is around noon. Billy is wearing a coat that might tell you it's cold outside, but other than that there are no signs indicating the temperature. This aspect of the setting is important because it is different from the book. In the book it's dark and cold to give a scary impression, but because the movie does... middle of paper ...... d sixpence.) Because it's such a cheap price, Billy decides to stay at the bed and breakfast. This detail is important because if the price had been higher, Billy might not have stayed, which would change the plot of the story like in the book. If the setting, resolution, and plot had changed between the book and the film, the mood and tone would be different. The book and movie "The Landlady" have 2 key differences and 1 important similarity that change the viewer's mood. These make the film and the book different and similar.
