Essay / The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank - 963
“The Diary of a Young Girl” by Anne Frank opens the reader's eyes to the world of a teenage girl living in hiding during World War II . In this dairy, the daily life of young Anne appears with her hopes, her fears and her deepest thoughts. The reader learns how dramatically one's life changes at any moment. This book bears witness to the suffering of Jews living in Europe in the years 1942-1944. The reader learns valuable lessons from Anne's thoughts, beliefs, and emotions throughout her journal. Young Anne receives a newspaper as a birthday present at the age of thirteen. She decides to tell everything in her diary and call her “Kitty”. Kitty quickly becomes Anne's friend who learns her true feelings and deepest thoughts. At first, Kitty discovers Anne's school life and the growing fear that weighs on the shoulders of the Jews. She later learns that Anne's family is sending supplies to Mr. Otto's office and the idea of hiding quickly becomes a reality. Anne takes Kitty with her when her family goes to their "annex" or hideout. Their annex becomes “a great place to hide” (Frank 26). With the Frank family live the van Daans and later Mr. Dussel. Over time, Kitty becomes used not only as a narrative of school life, but also as a tunnel to escape the problems of a young teenage girl. Kitty is filled with hidden details of everyday life. Kitty also discovers the personalities and flaws of the hidden people as well as the stories of their many feuds. Anne confides her true feelings to Kitty because she “needs to get all kinds of things off [her] chest” (Frank 6). Accounts of persecuted Jews fill the appendix and are recorded in Anne's diary. Anne expresses her loneliness to Kitty and...... middle of paper ......instills in readers the important virtues of determination, hard work and perseverance. Anne explains everyday situations as well as important life lessons learned from the Secret Annex. Thanks to Otto Frank who fulfilled his childhood dream of publishing his newspaper, the world now entered the difficult years of 1942 to 1944 for the Jews.
