  • Essay / The Transition Between Cinema and Theater: War Horse

In this essay I will explore the different effects of cinema and theater on audiences and whether the transition from theater to cinema, which tends to be seen as “deafening”, can really succeed. To do this, I will use War Horse's production as a vehicle, and I will investigate and explore the different points of view of critics and journalists and also using my personal experience. To compare whether a story can succeed in both mediums, you need to know the difference between them. Ultimately, both art forms are performed to entertain an audience. Cinema, a fairly recent art form that appeared at the beginning of the 20th century, is a young, innovative and discreet medium. However, theater is considered an art and involves the live performance of characters. Theater has been around for years and began during ancient religious ceremonies in Greece centuries ago. Even though both mediums share some similar aspects, the acting, directing, production and setting of the two mediums are completely different and I will discuss these aspects in more detail. Theater can sometimes be considered outdated. and overwhelmed by the technological capabilities of cinema, others believe that cinema is too often sold out and that the use of special effects has become so common and so easy to create, that film is more of a commercial medium than a form of art. Michael Billington, famous film and theater critic, asserted that "theater allows its audience to enjoy the pleasures of language, which is an endless verbal pleasure", while he described the language of cinema as "banal" and without originality. He also believes that theater is more responsive middle of paper......large due to the large budget he had for making the film, but was it innovative? Or was it just your traditional Hollywood war scene? I certainly wasn't surprised when I watched it. I found it boring and felt like I was dragging on forever. Since its first performance at the National Theater in 2007, "War Horse" has made me an international phenomenon, seen by more than 4 million people around the world and received numerous awards, including two Olivier Awards. in London, five Tony Awards in New York and three Dora Awards in Toronto. "War Horse" is currently in its sixth year in London and is on a major tour of North America, which continues through 2014. The show is also touring the United Kingdom and Ireland and a German-language production is performed in Berlin. But is anyone still talking about the movie? Meanwhile, the theater performance continues and enjoys success day by day..
