Zero population growth is the only plausible solution to the demographic crisis. The underlying problem, overpopulation, is the real social, environmental and health threat. One of the problems arising from overpopulation is the depletion of natural resources and the decline of biodiversity. More than eighty percent of the planet's old-growth forests have been destroyed, taking with them the habitats of countless species ("human population growth"). When species' habitats are destroyed, stranded animals are helpless and do not survive.
