the TriFit system was designed by Polar, the technological innovator in heart rate monitors since 1977. Polar, formerly known as Healthfirst, changed its name to Polar in the 1990s, when it developed the first model of Trifit software. The first accurate wireless heart rate monitor for EKG was invented by Polar in 1977 as a training tool for the Finnish national cross-country ski team. The concept of heart rate "intensity training" swept the sports world in the 1980s. By the 1990s, individuals were turning to heart rate monitors not only for their performance training needs, but also to achieve their daily fitness goals. Today, the same concept of heart rate training is used by world-class athletes as well as everyday people trying to lose weight. Today, Polar is the number one choice among consumers, trainers and personal trainers around the world. They are committed to not only producing the best products, but also being the leading educator on the benefits of heart rate based exercise. Technological background (history) The spin bike was created in 1987 by Jonathan Goldberg. He invented the spinner so people could exercise during the cold, snowy months of winter from the comfort of indoors. Goldberg and his partner John Baudhuin created the "spinner" brand and in 1992 the company focused not only on spinning bikes, but also on workouts. Many companies such as Star Trec and Keizer followed their example. These spinning bikes have been designed to support any body type and have the ability to withstand the same force that would be applied to a traditional road bike.
