I learned that I did not want to become an anesthesiologist who administers epidurals in a hospital. In fact, I was fortunate enough to have a nurse anesthetist explain the process of administering an epidural to me while she was giving one to a patient. In the PCU/ICU, I have seen many on-site surgeries, which are emergency surgeries that must take place in the patients' room, and I have seen many nurse anesthetists putting their patients to sleep while They explained the process and the medications to me. In the oncology unit, I learned about the many medications that nurses use to relieve some of the pain felt by cancer patients. Over time, I was able to speak to many doctors who explained different medications and how they work on the body to alleviate patients' pain.
