These verses mentioned above deal with three different conditions of an individual's unregenerate state before receiving salvation; one, lying to themselves that they are sinless while they are still sinners. The second is the recognition of their sins until repentance and the third is to deny the fact that they have sinned when they know that they have sinned. It is a statement in which one can perceive their state. Let me explain in more detail, as verse 8 reveals, the mental disposition of one who is currently in a state of sin, while in a state of denial. How they deceive themselves by living a lie or a state of illusion. For this reason, they are void of the truth, thus confirming their unsaved state. Verse 9 reveals the state of one who openly recognizes and confesses his sinfulness. In doing so, Jesus Christ will forgive them and cleanse them of all their unrighteousness. The word clean in Greek is katharizo, pronounced ka th-ar-id'-zo; which means to make clean, purge or purify. According to this definition, the Lord will purge, cleanse and purify everyone from all unrighteousness, making them free from every sin committed. It is important to note that one cannot simultaneously be pure or purified from unrighteousness and also be impure, or unrighteous. Either you must be completely cleansed and cleansed from all sin, or completely immersed in the filth of your sins. Jesus never half-cleansed anyone from sin, because He is completely cleansing. The work of salvation through Jesus Christ is perfect and complete in the deliverance of the souls of those lost in sin. The thorough procedure of salvation extended to humanity was made evident when Jesus died and rose from the dead. Verse 10 deals with the spirit... middle of paper ...... epistle. Which means: “THAT YOU DO NOT SIN”? What the scripture is saying here in verse 1 is that if for any reason you fall into sin, because of lack of consecration and watchfulness, you are not obligated to remain in the state of sin. God will mercifully grant you another opportunity to be redeemed by the blood of Jesus Christ for the washing away of your sins. Jesus is the advocate of those who fall into the temptation of their flesh and sin. The word lawyer in Greek parakletos, pronounced par-ak'-lay-tos, means intercessor, counselor: comforter. Jesus Christ is represented as the mediator who advises you to strengthen you, showing you the way back to God. Once you return to the Father, He will comfort you and keep you, only if you allow Him. The Lord will never comfort you in the state of your sins, for He finds no pleasure in your sinning..
