Daniel Cornejo Mrs. JeffersonEnglish p.November 19, 2014Who is the real monster? In the novel Frankenstein written by Mary Shelley, she talks about a scientist named Dr. Victor Frankenstein, a mad scientist who studies the dead. He decides to resurrect the dead and play the role of God by creating a monster and bringing it back to life. He spends his entire life focusing on this goal which pushes Victor to leave his friends and family behind. The monster does not know why he is brought back to life and begins to create chaos and tragedy. Victor's life begins to fall apart and fall apart little by little and he begins to despise his creation and lose interest in the monster. “Blood flowed freely,” Victor said in the novel: “A new species would bless me as creator and source; many happy and excellent natures owe their existence to me. I could, in time, renew life where death had apparently consecrated the body to corruption” (p. 52). This quote describes why Frankenstein created the monster. At first, Victor views his monster as a beautiful creation, but later, when he first lays eyes on the monster, he begins to fear and reject it and is no longer interested in the monster. The monster starts acting up and starts going crazy/berserk and later. in the novel begins to kill Victor's family. The Monster kills William, Victor's little brother, out of jealousy and confusion. This quote shows that Victor is beginning to feel repentance, remorse, and guilt for his brother's death and that he should be held responsible for his death. Justine's character is falsely accused of William's murder and she is executed because of it. The quote on page 81 says: "The weight on my mind became noticeably lighter as I sank deeper into the Arve ravine", which probably meant that Victor felt guilty about the death of Justine and that he should be held responsible for her death. Because Victor created the monster, he should be held responsible for the murders of Justine and William. The Monster is not the real monster of the novel. Victor is the real monster because he is the individual who created the monster responsible for the murder of his brother William and
