Essay / Orthodox Society - 641
By insisting on complete orthodoxy, is society only harming itself? I believe that when a society demands orthodoxy, it causes problems. To a certain extent, orthodoxy can be useful to society, but when the people demand it and they demand it in full, it can only cause problems. There are many reasons why complete orthodoxy only harms society. First of all, it greatly diminishes all forms of creativity among people and does not allow for new ideas that can benefit society. It also reduces people's overall intelligence. When it comes to orthodoxy and religion, it can weaken the quality of worship and the person's relationship with God. In general, orthodoxy somehow sets limits to the progress and development of society and does not allow new ideas to be accepted or recognized. Orthodoxy is defined as that which is traditional or the established faith in society. It is about following customs and commonly accepted beliefs. The one thing that orthodoxy almost completely erases and discourages is creativity and new ideas that can benefit society. Only traditional beliefs are accepted in an Orthodox society. So even if a brilliant idea is presented, it will not be accepted just because it is new and different. The pace of progress within Orthodox society is considerably slowed down. If we never accepted new ideas or anything outside of traditional beliefs, we wouldn't even be close to where we are today. Our knowledge of life in general would be nothing like that of today. We are where we are today because of people who had new and crazy ideas. All the great intellectuals were anything but orthodox in their beliefs. Many people who helped society the most with new ideas and inventions were considered crazy during their lifetime. If we accept new ideas, that is the only way to progress. Complete orthodoxy also diminishes our intelligence and our acceptance of others. When someone only learns one way of doing things, they are not informed about other ways of life. No one can truly be considered educated if they have only learned one side of the story. Imagine if we were taught our entire lives that blacks or Mexicans are bad, and no other beliefs were accepted..
