  • Essay / Analysis Of Hop-Frog - 2094

As people worry too much about the injustices they suffer, they lose their mental balance and tend to get involved in extreme violence, such as murder. In the story, Peo showed part of the traumatic event, in which Hop-Frog suffered excessive injustices due to the forced behavior of the king. The writer wrote: "Hop-Frog and a young girl only slightly less dwarfed than himself had been forcibly taken from their respective homes in neighboring provinces and sent as a gift to the king by one of his ever-victorious generals" ( Poe 1250). This quote clearly shows that the first injustice that Hop-Frog and Trippetta, Hop-Frog's friend, faced was being forcibly taken out of their home country and sent to the king, who treated like slaves. Additionally, Poe mentions, “But the king loved his pranks and took pleasure in forcing Hop-Frog to drink and (as the king called him) “to be merry” (Poe 1251). This excerpt shows another forced behavior from the king towards Hop-Frog, where the king pushed Hop-Frog to drink wine, even though he knew Hop-Frog was not affectionate towards wine. The reason he forced Hop-Frog is because the king wanted to see Hop-Frog's madness because it comforted him to see the dwarf without feeling at ease. The writer also said: “Poor boy! his large eyes shone rather than shone; for the effect of wine on his excitable brain was no more powerful than instantaneous. (Poe 1251). This quote shows Hop-Frog's tolerance for injustice from the king where he was ordered to drink and it brought tears to his eyes, but the king joked about it saying that the wine made his eyes shine. However, these traumatic situations gave him the courage to take revenge and he finally took his revenge in the story. Arlene Stillwell, Roy
