No air, no sunlight, a high concentration of oxygen and a pressure 360 times that of sea level would be conditions conducive to very strange life. (Studinger, 2008) Yet there is not only a fascination with what life exists, but also with what has existed. Being isolated from the rest of the world for 14 million years would effectively neutralize external factors such as climate change and the influence of dominant species on all existing life. Such isolation would provide a very pristine snapshot of what existed all those years ago, giving us a crucial link to what may be some of the earliest forms of life on Earth: our very earliest ancestors and the blueprint for our own genetic makeup .
