They claim to help farmers grow more on their farms while preserving natural resources. One of the products they sell is GMO soybeans. For Monsanto, soybeans were the first successful crop. Today, 95% of soy used in the United States comes from Monsanto's Roundup Ready soybean, which is genetically modified. In 2007, Monsanto held 23% of the global seed market. According to USA Today (USA Today2013), most soy crops in the United States are GMO crops. At first glance, one would wonder what it is; the benefits of GMO crops appear substantial. Disease-resistant, higher-yielding crops seem like a good deal. But health and environmental consequences must also be considered before determining that the benefits outweigh the costs.
