Amazon Rainforest Weird weather - climate change models. What is causing climate change in the Amazon rainforest and what could be done to stop and/or prevent it happen? Before I go into all the details relating to my research question: what is the Amazon rainforest and where is it located? The Amazon rainforest is the largest tropical rainforest in the world; half are located in Brazil and other South American countries, such as Colombia, Bolivia, Peru and Venezuela. In this tropical rainforest, about 10% of the world's known animal species and about 20% of the world's bird species live and can be found in this rainforest. ("Amazon Rainforest Facts for Kids." So what's the problem with keeping this rainforest safe and why is the climate changing? To begin with, the protection of this immense tropical forest is starting to become a major problem. Although deforestation rates have slowly declined over the past 10 years, the Amazon rainforest suffered significant damage from droughts in 2005 and 2010. In 2009, a study predicted that global warming would further complicate attempts to saving the Amazon rainforest. according to these recent studies, it is predicted that about a third of the trees in the Amazon rainforest will be killed by even modest increases in temperature. It is estimated that up to 85% of the forest could be lost if greenhouse gas emissions are not controlled. (Adam, David. “Amazon could shrink by 85% due to climate change, scientists say.” Theguardian.com. Guardian News and Media, March 11, 2009. Web.
