Essay / Newspapers and Online Media - 1927
Newspapers and online media have both done a good job of getting the news to readers. Newspapers as a traditional medium have been accepted by most people for a long time. But as technology advances, online media is becoming a competitor to newspapers. Hall (2001, p.2) states that there are 200 million people who use the web regularly and the web page number is around 800 million. Nowadays, Internet users are still growing very quickly. But the newspaper still plays an important role in the field of information. These two major news media have become part of people's lives. Both have advantages and disadvantages. Newspapers have been developing for a long time and web technology is new. But they all need to provide information to the public as soon as possible. For many years, newspapers have been the easiest medium for the public to obtain information. Cole and Harcup (2010, p. 4) believe that it is easy to pick up a newspaper and read it anywhere. It's quick and cheap for the public. This is why many people loved newspapers in the past. But as online media grows this year. People can get free information from the website and the information on the web is much faster than that in newspapers. It gives people another convenient way to get news. In a multimedia world, the number of people reading newspapers is decreasing. Cole and Harcup (2010, p.7) claim that newspapers are not going to die, but the adult population reading newspapers fell from 77% to 50% between 1983 and 2006. And only 30% of people think that newspapers are popular in 2006. This is a huge challenge for newspapers after the news appears online. Both newspapers and online media use images and language to tell the reader's story. But newspapers have few images and words. They couldn't use too many pages to show details. Website can add more images middle of paper......digital media both play an important role in disseminating information nowadays. The advantage of the newspaper is to attract the attention of readers and make a good impression on them. The language and representation of the newspaper will be much more professional and individual. The limitation of the journal is that space and time are not extended. They must complete their work on time and cannot add information once completed. And the downside of newspapers is the upside of online media. The website can be changed at any time and provide as much information as desired. Unfortunately, people have more choices on the Internet and online media has quickly lost them. Newspapers and online media have their own characteristics. They need to learn from each other and think about how to attract and retain audiences. Changing the disadvantage and gaining the advantage will help each other develop in the future.
