Napoleonic Artillery Throughout history, many leaders have influenced the strategies used on different battlefields. One of the most influential leaders the world has ever known is undoubtedly Napoleon Bonaparte. This young French lord began building his legacy at a young age, proving to the people of the world that he was a force to be reckoned with. Throughout his life he faced many battles and in each of them he attacked with impressive military tactics that were analyzed over time and shaped the way most of the military of the world operate in their combat operations. Not only did his tactics influence him and bring him well-deserved victories, but they also paved the way for artillery to become a key asset in destroying and dominating the battlefield. From a young age, Napoleon showed impressive leadership potential. While most children his age would not analyze a childish game like a snowball fight, Napoleon strategized and created certain tactics to achieve his great victories of the time. At the age of ten, Napoleon was sent to a military boarding school. It was there that he found the intrigue of learning artillery and studying to become a commissioned officer. Horne stated that Napoleon was commissioned as a second lieutenant in 1785 at the age of sixteen. According to "The Napoleon Series" by Jenner Vigil, one of Napoleon's most iconic tactics that brought him recognition was when the French were invaded by royalists. On October 5, 1795, Paris was attacked and Napoleon then controlled all French field artillery. His incredible determination was evident throughout his life, from his incredible achievements in becoming a second lieutenant to leading artillery armies. The tactics used during his reign were so ingenious that they led to the glorious victories in many of his battles. Not only did his tactics earn him his legacy of prestige, but they also played a vital role in the number of future battles that have been fought to date. Throughout history, we can see the incredible impact Napoleon had on future battlefields, describing many of his tactics to achieve their ultimate goal: victory.
