  • Essay / Considering the Children of Illegal Immigrants by Frosty...

In one of his editorials, Frosty Wooldridge wrote about how undocumented immigrants cost taxpayers a colossal amount of money every year. Wooldridge argues that these undocumented immigrants give birth to offspring who become deeply attached or rooted to this country and who, in turn, cost taxpayers a huge amount of money each year. Wooldridge's op-ed is one of the most controversial discussions in Congress and the country as a whole. . This argument is one of those that thwart or hinder the implementation of the DREAM Act which aims to help children of undocumented immigrants enjoy certain privileges such as obtaining in-state tuition and others. Wooldridge believes that the rate at which these undocumented immigrants are having babies in this country is out of control and fears that one day they will outnumber the population of American citizens and launch a sudden attack on American citizens. Wooldridge further wrote that these children are not only threats, but cost American taxpayers colossal sums of money each year for their health, education and basic needs. Wooldridge mentioned that not only do they cost us a lot of money, but they are also the main perpetrators of criminal or deviant behavior that leads them to end up in our various prisons - another economic disadvantage. Wooldridge mentioned that our members of Congress were indifferently watching the problem worsen. She also thinks they “look up to” “illegal immigrants” and “their poster children.” In Wooldridge's editorial, she hastily generalizes that all undocumented immigrants are unemployed. She argues that the majority of all these immigrants are drug addicts who are using their "anchor" children's citizenship status to receive SSI benefits, which is contrary to something...... middle of paper ......can lose most of its income. their employees, which can cause the collapse of these companies. Again, the unemployment rate will increase for U.S. citizens and legal immigrants in general if these businesses collapse. One could argue that businesses will not collapse because we have many citizens and legal immigrants who are unemployed and can fill these vacancies held by these immigrants. This is indeed true, but are they enough to fill the 8 million vacant positions as the statistics show? I doubt it. I firmly believe that undocumented immigrants and their “anchor babies” will help improve the American economy rather than devastate it if appropriate measures are put in place to address the situation. However, its negative ramifications cannot be abandoned. In a word, I think that the advantages of the current situation far outweigh the disadvantages or disadvantages..
