Many positive things happened during and as a result of British colonization of India. When the East India Company took control of India in 1612, it began to modernize, westernize, and industrialize India. This Westernization included the granting of more rights to women, an attempt to eliminate the caste system, and the loss of many of the most backward Hindu religious beliefs, such as the domination of women by men and the denial of any rights to a whole class of people. The British occupation also had long-term effects on India. Modern technology and Western customs have enabled India to become a rising regional superpower. The colonization of India was useful to India because it contributed greatly to modernizing India, westernizing it in matters of government and equality, and enabling India to become the prosperous country it was. she is today.
