Nisarg PatelMs. DeLoachAP EnglishNovember 20, 2014Need for funding for space travelSpace, the last frontier, for centuries man has looked at the stars, marveled at their beauty and marveled at their possibilities. Currently, humanity has the resources and technology to reach these stars. However, with the many failures of space travel in the years since our first attempt to reach the stars, many people consider funding space travel a waste of resources and money. We must ignore these failures and continue to fund human exploration of space. Many people argue that there are better things to do with money, like ending our problems on Earth instead of going into space. Most of the problems people say we should solve are world hunger, disease, and the environment. The problem with this idea is that these problems are unstoppable; these problems have always happened and will always happen. For example, if we ended world hunger, several additional problems would arise, such as over-farming and overpopulation. Furthermore, if we stopped diseases, new, stronger and more aggressive strains of bacteria and viruses would appear; a good example of this is the fact that overuse of hand sanitizers and antibacterials has led to the development of superbugs that are immune to our current medications. The earth's environment cannot support a limited number of people and spending money on it will do no good. NASA helps solve global problems by providing us with information about global warming and the ozone layer, as well as tracking dangerous weather conditions, saving many lives. Humanity as a whole needs to think about things in the long term. The human population is constantly increasing faster and faster and so...... middle of paper...... calluses and pesticides. Space travel has also created small things that are used in our daily lives, like tires that last longer and memory foam. Funding space travel would open our eyes to the universe and literally allow us to reach the stars. The universe opens its hand and offers to show us all its wonders and beauties and whatever we have to do, take it. We would be able to extend the human population to the stars; We could see new worlds; We might finally know if we are truly alone. The Earth is a small base, a diving board, that we can use to dive into the depths of the universe and visit galaxies millions of light years away.Bibliography1.
