    Survival Guide to Killing a MockingbirdPart 1Chapter 1Flashback to the times and events leading up to Jem's accident. Narrated by Jean Louise Finch (nicknamed Scout). In the chapter we are introduced to Dill, Calpurnia, Atticus, Miss Stephanie Crawford and of course Jem and Scout. Scout tells her family's story and we begin to understand Finch's location and relationship to Maycomb County. After they become friends, Dill learns of the rumors about Boo Radley. Dill shows immense interest in the Radleys over the summer and finally challenges Jem to try to get Boo out of the house. They eventually decide that Jem should go up to Radley Place and hit the house. After a while of Dills teasing Jem, he finally accepts the challenge. Scout, for the first time, is on her way to school. The school, as a setting, brings Mrs. Fisher into the story with the Cunninghams. As Scout begins class, she and Miss Caroline Fisher get off to a rocky start due to Scout's natural gift for reading and are accused of her father teaching her.
