  • Essay / Computer Science: Data Mining - 1518

Data mining is an analytical process of exploring a huge amount of data, extracting useful information, finding consistent patterns and trends among variables, and creating predictive computer models from the discovered relationship using a combination of classical statistics, machine learning and artificial intelligence. The results are then applied to new subsets of data to test their validity. It accomplishes two essential tasks: describing and predicting. Descriptive mining tasks characterize general properties of data in the database. Predictive mining tasks perform inferences on current data in order to make predictions. This involves data classifications that must identify patterns to be classified into known classes, explore associations between sets of data elements, and group similar groups in the data. This is followed by exploring a sequential pattern, for example, event A will be immediately followed by event B, gap detection, which involves determining significant changes in the data, followed by visualization data, a graphical method of showing patterns in data. in the field of health is not a new idea, the technique was discovered by William Farr (1807-1883), a British epidemiologist and pioneer in the field of medical statistics. His major contribution was to find the link between causes of death and professions. Similarly, John Snow (1813-1858), a London physician, also applied statistical analysis to prove the true cause of the cholera epidemic. The healthcare industry today generates large amounts of complex data on patients, hospital resources, disease diagnosis, electronic patient records and medical devices. These massive amounts of data have been organized intensively and thoroughly using methodology and technology...... middle of paper ......ssification.Keiko A Herrick, FH (2013).
