Essay / Physiotherapy - 704
How does physiotherapy help you recover from pain? This has always been an interesting question of mine that I've thought about. The complex process by which physiotherapy cures you of your pain amazes me. Everyone's pain is different: some have surgery and recover, others are just sore. Everyone has different pain and physical therapists need to know how to resolve it. Physical therapists have many different methods to heal your body; however, to use these methods, you must have a college degree. In college, you must take many courses to enter the field of physical therapy. I plan to attend Grand Canyon University in the fall of 2014. The required courses for their Bachelor of Science in Biology with an emphasis in Pre-Physical Therapy are: Academic Achievement, English, Christian Worldview, philosophy and ethics, mathematics, numerous biology courses. , History, Sociology, numerous psychology courses, anatomy, chemistry, genetics, sports training, kinesiology, physiology, pharmacology, various exercise science courses, health care, physics and life development. Many of these courses are not only lectures, but also required laboratories, for example: chemistry laboratory and lecture which are worth 2 credits each. Between your 2nd and 3rd years of university, you will work as an intern, where you will observe physiotherapists and learn about their profession. After completing your four years of undergraduate study, you will have the choice of not pursuing graduate studies. The next step if you choose to continue your education would be to obtain your master's degree. Once you have acquired, you can either start your career or continue your studies...... middle of paper ...... when I went for a physiotherapy clinic. When I first went to shadow at Thunderbird's physical therapy office, I immediately felt welcome. My mentor was Sarah Somers, who was very kind and caring for her patients. She would see a new patient every hour and say, “If you ever have any questions about what’s going on, just ask.” Just by watching I gained a lot of knowledge about what was happening. I learned that it's not just about knowing how to help your patient recover from their pain, but also about creating a connection with them. It is important that your patients feel comfortable with you so that they can talk to you about how they are doing and what they are really feeling. It's good to be able to make patients feel good about you so that you can be recommended by other patients and doctors.
