The discovered vision of women in societyIn the novel Othello, written by William Shakespeare, there are various ways of representing women. There are strong-willed women like Emilia, who stand up to men, especially her husband. If he is wrong, she will openly admit that he is wrong. There are also women who are considered a possession and extremely submissive to their husbands, like Desdemona. This is the kind of woman who will obey her husband until the day he dies. Desdemona believes that her husband is always right and that he will never do anything that will lead her in the wrong direction. Many women at that time thought the same thing. They are considered domestic workers, cooks and teachers of children. In addition to these qualities that women get, having no authority in marriage also adds to the list. In this novel, there is a judgment against women because they are “unequal” to men. They are not allowed to do the same things as men because they do not possess the same qualities as men. Men were considered superior to women. Women were treated as their “slaves”. On the other hand, today, women have the power. They have the right to vote, run for office and even work outside the home. Women now play the role of male and female figures in households. They are considered independent women and not relying on a male figure. Even though they are married now, they don't listen to everything their husband tells them to do. It is said in the Bible that a male character is the head of the family; However, women today have moved away from this view they held back then. They want to be the dominant figure.
