  • Essay / Contrast between Christianity and Islam - 1787

    Christianity and IslamReligions are what a man or woman makes of them. The difference between religions and faith is how people perceive it. For example, religion is defined as a belief. Anyone can have a religion, but it takes faith to establish religion. Additionally, some religions originated in the 19th century and were closely related to older religions, such as Buddhism and Hinduism (Fisher). While some people believe in different and numerous gods, many believe in God, such as Christianity and Islam. Additionally, although there are other religions that believe in one God, Christianity and Islam are two of the major religions that share some of the same beliefs. Added to this is “the very existence of traditions pointing towards a common monotheism and the same messianic objective shared by Jews and Muslims” (Shabir 13). However, everyone has a different perspective on who is the true prophet, Jesus or Muhammad. Even though both are considered the last prophets, Christianity and Islam may have similar beliefs, but by comparing and contrasting them one can be aware of what the two religions have in common. For example, “Christianity and Islam are strongly associated with modernity, both in its positive and negative aspects” (Gausset 5). Furthermore, Islam, which "in its original sense, a complete and trusting surrender to God" (Fisher 431), is totally devoted to Muhammad because they believe that Gabriel, an angel, spoke to him. Muslims believe that Muhammad is the messenger of God. Christianity, which “is a faith based on the life, teachings, death, and resurrection of Jesus” (Fisher 302).
