Wind energy powers more than 60 gigawatts of renewable energy in the United States without generating pollution or water use (“What We Do”) . Additionally, nuclear power uses about 600 times more water and fossil fuels use about 500 times more water than wind power to create the same amount of energy (“Wind Power and the Birds”) . Additionally, coal produces more than 70% of the electricity sector's greenhouse gas emissions, while creating less than 40% of the energy ("Why Wind Power"). Being efficient is one of the many benefits of wind power. Wind power is also affordable, as its price has dropped significantly. Over the past 20 years, the cost of wind power has fallen by 85% ("wind power") and in the 1980s wind power was 40 cents per kWh, but is now only 2.5 to 5 cents per kWh (“Why Wind Power”). Despite their many advantages, citizens deplore that wind turbines are very dangerous for wildlife, even more so than fossil fuels, which lack respect for the qualities of life. Additionally, only 7% of the United States is powered by wind energy.
