  • Essay / Personal Experience: Writing and Performing My Own Music

“There are approximately 37 million student borrowers with unpaid student loans today. » (asa.org). This seems like a ridiculously high number, except for the fact that “…12 million (people)…borrow each year to help cover costs.” (asa.org). This means that 12 million people are falling into even more debt every year. When it comes to college, every year is another leap and another tied to debt that will take years and years to pay off. This seems to raise an important question; Is college just a debt trap? College really may not be the best option for everyone in today's society. Most workplaces these days consider the appropriate college degree to be very essential, if not required, during the hiring process. However, there are jobs for which a college diploma is not necessary. For example, many music career options don't require any college education. The music career field has been a thriving employment field for centuries, growing and shaping as technology develops. Because technology has increasingly developed, the list of positions available in the field has also grown. As a performing musician, these posts caught my attention. Especially since I prefer not to let myself be consumed by the debt granted to those who attend university. However, what I have learned through my extensive research is that there is far more input to recording a single song or putting on a single show than is actually seen or heard. And each of these contributions represents a job opportunity in itself. Some of these jobs, like that of a recording technician, require some sort of training or qualifications to complete the tasks assigned middle of paper......there's no real need to put in the work place in debt, so don't do it. At least this time I will listen to my mother's words and not go into debt. I don't need to pursue higher education after high school and I believe I can do what many others before me have done and achieve my dreams in my own way. I will one day prove that anyone who tells me I can’t make it in the “big leagues” of music will be wrong. Works Cited Desenne, Michael. “The Most Expensive American Cities to Live in.” Kiplinger.
