Essay / The Empty Tomb - 1115
With Easter fast approaching, the origins of the holiday might come to mind; there had to be another reason to start the celebration other than buying chocolate bunnies and eggs to color. For some, it dates back to Rome's time as a world power and unique event. Jesus Christ of Nazareth rose from the dead. There has been speculation since the very day this happened whether Jesus Christ actually rose from the dead. Questions have circulated such as: Did he really die or did he just pass out on the cross with the cold air of the tomb waking him up? Or did his disciples steal his body? The answers to these questions and more will be presented as we examine the medical, historical, and circumstantial evidence for Jesus' miraculous resurrection. The medical evidence for Jesus' complete death on the cross is the first crucial area to look at. After the torture that Jesus suffered before even going to the cross, he was beaten with a cat o' nine tails and beaten to the point that he was not even visible to those who knew him. He also had a crown of thrones smashed on his scalp and intended to carry the object on which he was going to die to the hill of his execution. Nails were driven into his wrists and ankles to keep him attached to the cross. It usually took several days for people to die by crucifixion. They died of suffocation because they were no longer able to get up to get air into their lungs. Jesus died a few hours after being up there. This is unheard of and doesn't seem possible. But after the beatings he received even before he was on the cross, there was not much left of him. It is reported that Roman soldiers pierced his sides (from the left side to his heart) with a spear and in response...... middle of paper...... in such a way that he became one of the best. Church leaders and eventually died for his beliefs as well. No one wants to lose their life easily and especially for something they don't even fully trust. There is only strong evidence for the legitimate resurrection of Jesus Christ. All arguments against it have no weight and can be easily refuted. Logical reasoning leads to the truth of the empty tomb and the resurrected Christ. Works Cited Did Jesus really rise from the dead? carm. Christian Apologetics and Research Ministry. 2010. Internet.
