Some of us in the world may struggle with reading, spelling, and other academic issues. You may not know why they can't read or spell as well as you because they have a disorder. This disorder is called dyslexia. People with dyslexia have difficulty with: listening, reading, writing, spelling and even handwriting. However, being dyslexic does not mean they are not intelligent. Some of the world's greatest minds suffer or have suffered from dyslexia. One of the most fascinating causes of dyslexia is dominant ear. Even though they are different, that doesn't mean they are stupid. (Hotz, Sollier)Dyslexia is a learning disorder linked to problems with reading, writing and spelling. (Britannica Company) One in five Americans suffer from this disorder. The difficulties they may encounter are listening, writing, reading, spelling or handwriting. Students with this disorder may have difficulty with more than one academic. Additionally, they have problems understanding the language, which leads to poor academic performance. (Hotz, Me) This disorder does not only occur in children, it can also occur in adolescents and adults. Dyslexia in adults is more serious because they suffered from it as children, meaning they could read a third grade book. (Me, Hotz)Children suffer from dyslexia. They stumble or have trouble with words. When they read, they may skip words they don't know or can't pronounce. Children with dyslexia have different reading habits than other children. (Hotz) The reading models there are slower than others and they don't read as fluently as the children who do read. Children also have spelling problems because they don't know which letters to put with the sounds of words. Left ear dominants send information to the right side of the brain which is not the language center, so the information must travel from the right side to the left side, which delays the information. Some people with dyslexia need to go through a program that will help them read, learn, and speak better, but through the program they will become right ear dominant. They may be known slowly, but they will soon catch up and get the right dominant ear.
