    Music producers have an influence on the music that today's young people listen to and many are affected even if the producers are unaware of it. Today, drug abuse, violence and sex are on the rise, although hip hop itself is not to blame. Imagine our youth across the country being exposed to this type of explicit language. There is no need to imagine, because it is already happening. Since the rise of rap and hip hop music, teenagers have turned to them for help with their problems. However, these types of music can be very destructive to teenagers. It’s not the young people’s fault; it’s the content that music contains. Although rap and hip hop music can be a positive force, it can also have an extremely negative impact on the attitudes and behaviors of our youth. Boyce Watkins compares Hip Hop to “Adolph Hitler's Mien Kampf like a harmless little book where the Bible has no impact on Christianity” (KultureKritic). Basically he's trying to say that when you control the minds of a few groups of people, you control the people themselves. By embedding messages on the airwaves, it serves as a model for our youth to self-destruct by creating a large army of impoverished, saggy-pants, Blunt-smoking, tattooed, uneducated, STD-infected thugs. Hip-hop is defined as: “a subculture, particularly that of inner-city youth who are generally fans of rap music, graffiti, break dancing and DJing.” If you ask a Hip Hop fan what the definition is for them, then you might get something deeper. Some fans define hip hop as a culture consisting of many of its own subcultures and knowledge of the history and principles of hip hop.
