    Time and time again, I have witnessed tremendous adversity at extremely inopportune times, and each time, the faith of my elders has never wavered. Without these people showing me what it looks like to have a strong core, I believe my life would be shaped very differently. From a young age, I understood that setting goals, going out and working hard to achieve those goals would be something expected of me. I was always taught that anything worthwhile was worth a little hard work and elbow grease. One trend I observed during my research is that almost everyone in my family has different ideas about gender roles. However, what I realized was that the further back I went, the more traditional gender role ideals became. The older women in the family are all more caring than the men, and the latter are more concerned with discipline than the women.
