Essay / Self-assessment of my performance - 1040
Learning experiences Self-assessment of my performance in 303 Throughout the year, I have had countless pleasant experiences in room 303, although my performance has fluctuated from day to day. To begin, we need to find a baseline for my high school English classes to establish how I rate myself. During my junior and senior years, I was in the honors English program, but I wasn't particularly proud of my performance in any given area. Although I will say that that first year I was proud of myself for writing my memoir, even though the grammar lessons I learned in second year could have helped them incredibly. Although my performance was above average during those two years, I don't think there was anything remarkable about what I was doing. During my junior year of high school, I dropped out of the honors program and opted for a lighter workload the year I needed to focus on studying for the ACT. I was able to get a 28 on my ACT and was extremely pleased with that performance. Instead of choosing to return to the AP English class, I enrolled in the Northwest College English class. This year, I know for a fact that I was able to achieve certain things that would have been impossible for me in any other year of high school. Mainly among these are my reading skills, my participation skills and even my writing skills. The first area in which I performed well was in my reading skills when we worked with literature in and out of class. Although I have always been a high reader, I always read at a literal level before this year. Any hidden themes or motifs incorporated into the text by the author have generally been missed by me until this year. Fortunately, Doct...... middle of paper ...... l. Although my lack of focus held me back at different times of the year, overall I was pleased with my improvements in my writing skills, my participation skills, and my reading skills. In previous years I only knew how to use my own opinion in my writing, I now have the knowledge that allows me to include internal or external validations in my article. My participation skills were off the charts this year, I believe, because I was able to overcome mental barriers and participate in a way that allowed me to learn more than in previous years. Finally, my reading skills have improved and I am now able to spot themes and details that I would have missed in the past. It also doesn't hurt that I enjoyed the vast majority of what we read in class this year, the British really knew what they were doing when it came to poetry..
