Hindu-Arab Mathematics Several cultures have influenced the advancement of mathematics over the years, causing controversies and groundbreaking discoveries over time. Although the Greek and European civilizations have been accredited for the majority of innovations associated with mathematics, the Hindu-Arabic culture has made some of the greatest contributions in this field. It is believed that Indian mathematicians have not received deserved credit or recognition in the history of mathematics because Western civilizations took their known works and copied them as their own. Some of the Hindu contributions to mathematics include the fields of arithmetic, geometry, algebra, mathematical logic, general mathematics, trigonometry and the development of the currently widely used Hindu-Arabic number system.
