INTRODUCTIONThe theme of the present article is “Translation of –Ing forms in legal documents from English to Romanian”. We will particularly focus on -ing forms and their translation into Romanian. The research is based on a parallel corpus of legal documents extracted from the EURLEX portal of European legislation. We motivate our choice to constitute a corpus of legal documents by the fact that their translation is valid and has an official character. The reasons for writing this article are as follows: firstly, -ing constructions have raised many questions for linguists and grammarians due to their misleading nature – it can be a gerund, a noun verbal or a participle – this is why we would like to have a case study of these forms. Second, the delineation between the forms mentioned above is not always clear and some grammarians argue that the terminology of the –ing form is also misleading. Therefore, the author wishes to define and demarcate the –ing forms and provide arguments for the particular choices of their translation into Romanian. Previous studies have discussed the ing form from a literary, spoken or written corpus of the English language. Among previous studies we would like to mention the following:• Alboiu, Gabriela and Hill, Virgina, 2014, Gerunds in Early Modern Romania.• Seiss Melanie, 2008, THE ENGLISH –ING FORMMy aim in this article is to examine the use –ing forms that appear in legal documents.
