    Patient and family involvement during bedside NKE provides opportunity to hear what happened throughout of the shift and the next stage of care. Studies found that “after implementing bedside shift reporting, hospitals reported increased patient satisfaction scores and improvements in the nurse-patient relationship” (AHRQ, n.d. ). Implementing NKE at the bedside is not an easy process. Involvement of staff in a multidisciplinary team is necessary to monitor and provide feedback during the implementation process. Nurses may resist NKE for a variety of reasons. We must recognize and address potential challenges and concerns in order to successfully implement NKE at the bedside. Step-by-step planning, education, and training are necessary to encourage nurses to adopt the concept of NKE at the bedside. Nurses must realize that bedside NKE improves quality of care, nurse accountability, and patient satisfaction. It may be useful to implement this strategy initially on a small scale, for example on a single unit. This will help identify what worked well and what didn't.
