Essay / Analysis of the character of Ophelia - 794
“And I, of the most dejected and miserable ladies, who have sucked the honey of her musical wishes, I now see this noble and most sovereign reason […] out of tune and hard (3.1.13). Ophelia is a very interesting character from the book “Hamlet” written by William Shakespeare. She displays several qualities that make her interesting. Ophélie takes orders and never speaks for herself until she finally breaks down. The proof is that her father orders Ophelia to speak to Hamlet for the first time in weeks after telling her to stop seeing Hamlet. Ophélie is also a sweet and innocent young girl. We witness this when the narrator tells readers that she follows all of her father's requests without question. This shows that she is innocent in having no reason not to trust her father. Finally, she seems depressed in some scenes. The author shows this when the narrator mentions that she felt under pressure to have sex with Hamlet. It was too much unconscious stuff for her to handle at that moment. This essay will show that Ophelia possesses the three qualities we have just mentioned. This essay will show how the events and examples just mentioned show Ophelia's unique qualities. Things are becoming unbalanced in the kingdom of Elsinore. The old king's brother, Claudius, married Gertrude, the king's widow. The king's son, Hamlet, thinks his mother is going too fast. She didn't even grieve long enough; she only mourned for two months and for her son Hamlet, that wasn't enough time. Meanwhile, two guards outside the castle notice a ghost that seems strangely familiar. They later discover its former king Hamlet chasing the castle. One of the two guards goes to look for Hamlet and tells him that his father is a ghost. When Hamlet meets the ghost, he realizes that it is actually a middle of paper that speaks to men, gentle and innocent. When Ophelia follows her father's demands that she stop seeing Hamlet, she immediately agrees. Even though she is in love with Hamlet and it breaks her heart to no longer be with him, she still obeys her father. When Polonius wants to use her as bait to spy on Hamlet on behalf of King Claudius, she does exactly as she is told and still does not question her family's motives. We see Ophelia dependent on the quality of men since she is not married, she must live according to her father's rules. Even if she was married, she would have to follow her husband's rules. Finally, when Hamlet verbally insults her in the theater, she does not respond. Given that she is nice and chooses to ignore him. Ophélie is a dynamic and interesting character who has not learned to defend herself. She later falls into depression because she didn't stop this from happening..
