Genocide, the killing of a certain ethnic or religious group of people, is a war crime that has continued to pose a problem over the years throughout the world . More recently, in the years 1992-1995, the massacres of Bosnian Muslims (Bosnians) affected the European continent. It is still a tragedy that Bosnians will probably never forget. Although there was always a problem between ethnic groups in what was once Yugoslavia, Muslims were really targeted when Bosnia declared independence. (Bosnia and Herzegovina). During the 1992 Bosnian genocide, the Serbs became extremely powerful and targeted many Muslims. As a result, many Bosniaks were subsequently deported and no longer treated as civilians; These events still greatly affect Bosnians today. The Bosnian genocide began when sections of Yugoslavia began to become independent. Bosnia, a smaller country a third the size of England and located in Europe, declared its independence shortly after the death of Yugoslavia's former leader, Tito, at the time. of 1980. However, previously, when all territories were united into one, ethnic tensions always existed between many territories. Their dictator managed to maintain firm rule over the country, preventing problems between different groups of people from resurfacing. This same tension later turned into more serious and terrible problems for Bosnian Muslims and Croats. After Tito's death, the new Serbian leader, Slobodan Milosevic, strongly encouraged Serbian nationalism. (Bosnia 1995). Then, 90% of the soldiers became Serbs. Which obviously put the Bosnians at a disadvantage. This caused big problems for the Bosnians over time due to the lack of power to fight back. Many Bosnians and Croats have lost friends, family and loved ones to this preventable problem.
