The tourism industry may seem heavily dependent on marketing through advertisements that appear as we walk down the street or even from the comfort of our homes, but as important as it is , marketing is just one part of a bigger picture. Marketing plays a vital role in presenting destinations in the best light and persuading people to travel, which is what the industry depends on. The industry itself is focused on consumerism and meeting everyone's needs, and that's where the management side of things comes in. Tourism management is just as important, or even more important, as some might argue, than the marketing sector because it ensures the smooth running of the business. effective and efficient as possible. The management aspect of tourism has many elements that range from the impacts that tourism has had on the environment, to the maintenance of physical facilities, to the importance of people management in the tourism industry. Finally, managing tourist behavior is also vital to maintain face and maintain the economic aspect of the business by monitoring the spending made by tourists abroad. The relationship between the tourism industry and the environment seems to go hand in hand, because without one the others would subsequently cease to exist. Lately it seems like we're hearing more and more about the negative impacts of tourism on the environment as people become more aware and careful of the environment, whereas in the 1960s Holden ( 2000) describes the industry itself as an “environmentally friendly activity” and a “smoke-free industry”. The management aspect of tourism proves to be of great importance because without good management, the physical facilities of the industry would not be well maintained and since they are large attractions like theme parks or airports, this could strongly influence travel habits. People working in the tourism industry also play a major role in ensuring tourists return.
