IntroductionEnglish has become one of the major languages of the world and it can be an agent of linguistic imperialism (Phillipson, 1992). This review will provide a review of the 1992 book, “Linguistic Imperialism,” published by New York: Oxford University Press. The author, Robert Phillipson, is a research professor in the Department of English at Copenhagen Business School. Review of this article helps confirm that Phillipson has accurately described the existing problems surrounding disappearing minority languages and the untenable idea of a combination of globalization and English. However, I dispute that English can promote social mobility in low-income countries in Africa and other countries. The questions raised are as follows:1. Can equality in English learning be achieved globally?2.
