Most literary works draw the basis of their meaning from a moment of the respective author's that directly relates to situations that influence him as a person . Because Hans Christian Andersen faced the difficulties of a poor lifestyle from childhood, he expresses the problems associated with life in his short fairy tale The Stead Fast Tin Soldier. In order to impress upon a posterity who would not otherwise understand the perseverance and struggles that accompany success, he uses the fairy tale as a mechanism of persuasion. When composing a piece of literature with the aim of elucidate an emotion, make an analysis or, as in the case of The Steadfast Tin Soldier, persuade, an author uses many tools in his arsenal, known in his collective generic under the name of rhetoric. In order to achieve what he desires in this work, a story that encourages personal individuality, dynamism and the pursuit of self-realization, Andersen uses many rhetorical measures such as juxtaposition, symbolism, irony, motives and emotional manipulation. As many authors use other rhetorical devices to give meaning to a work in many works of literature, a rhetorician will use juxtaposition in order to enhance an idea or arouse a certain emotion that conveys the main idea of ​​the medium of work . When deciding what would best fit his story, Andersen used juxtaposition in order to give an emotion of affection to the two main characters, the toy soldier and the paper dancer. He also uses manipulative techniques to enhance his text, thus avoiding the tasteless ridicule of other playful writers of his time.
