He did not show remorse for the death of his mother Jocasta in leaving Thebes, but blinding himself during his last act as king did not showed no strength as ruler of Thebes. Other people might think differently because “texts from individual contexts are read by different people, signs of discouragement will always have a multiplicity of meanings” (Demir 84) that differentiate minds. Seeing life does not improve any situation or bring someone back to life. He did this because he was angry at everything he had done. I think Oedipus has great integrity that makes him a well-liked person, but that's the only thing he really has. He showed strength towards the end of the play when he left Thebes, which made it seem like he was not dying of pain and disgust. The message I got from the play was that he has no courage. Indeed, instead of trying to make things right, he decides that blinding himself and leaving Thebes is the best option, which helps no one. Overall, it was Oedipus' pride that caused the truth to be revealed so late. I was actually quite angry reading this play because of all the connections that existed that Laius and Jocasta were Oedipus' parents. When Teiresias spoke with Oedipus about being the king's murderer, he simply ignored him and followed his pride. If Oedipus had at least tried to make an effort and listen to what people had to say at the beginning of the play, it would have saved him a lot of time and probably would have been a less weak role model for his people in
