The hegemony of English creates both a positive and negative race towards modernization. The positive aspects of modernization and economic and educational growth lie in the relationships built abroad between different cultures and nations. These modernizations and relationships create needs for improving social well-being and the lives of others. These needs are the ideas that fuel the production of new technologies and cures waiting to be found. English as a global language brings together cultures from different backgrounds in a homogenized society, which can be seen as both a positive and negative aspect. These homogenized societies seek the same materialistic products such as the latest technological gadgets, food, clothing and musical influences. This creates barrier-free zones which can lead to loss of cultural identity and language. Other times it can lead to the production of a pidgin and a creole. English is a living organism and a language without borders. Its evolution and adaptability to its environment produces the English we see and speak in modern society. As English vocabulary increases, so does that of our generations. The creation of English slang merged with the English vocabulary we speak today. More and more words are added to the English dictionary daily with the emergence of the need for self.
