    At first count, the chosen candidate was Mr Scullin (ALP) who received 42.5 per cent of the vote. H would have won if Australia had used a FPTP system, but he received no more than 50 per cent of the first preferences and the procedure was conducted under the rule of a preferential system. Votes for Sculin (ALP) were rejected, but if Australia had used a FPTP system it would have rejected more.
